Non-academic Service
HOBY Youth Leadership.
As a sophomore in high school I attended the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar which had an incredible impact on my confidence and leadership. After college I re-engaged with the organization as a volunteer at the seminar and then as Alumni Advisor. The mission of HOBY Vermont is to empower high school students to make a difference in their communities through critical self-reflection, leadership skills, and community service. I continue to work with HOBY alongside my academic work because of the impact this organization has on the youth of Vermont and the management, business, and interpersonal skills I have learned through my volunteer roles.
Vice President (2021- Present). As vice president of the corporate board I am spearheading a campaign to streamline our PR and alumni initiatives into a cohesive outreach program. With a small team of volunteers we will implement a series of programs to connect our alumni with businesses throughout Vermont through a job shadowing and career exploration program. This will achieve multiple goals including developing our ambassadors leadership skills after the seminar, connecting current ambassadors with alumni, and increasing HOBY Vermont's name recognition throughout the state.
Leadership Seminar Chair (2017-2019). As the Leadership Seminar Chair of the Vermont HOBY chapter, I led a team of volunteers to organize an annual leadership seminar for 115 high school sophomores from around Vermont. This 4 day, overnight seminar is hosted on a college campus and empowers our students to effect positive change in their communities through self-reflection, group leadership challenges, and keynote speakers from community leaders in diverse fields. The Leadership Seminar Chair works with a group of directors to recruit attendees, recruit and train 40+ volunteers, fundraise and manage a $20k budget, and run a year-round Seminar Planning Committee.
Alumni Advisor (2015-2016, 2019-2021). The Alumni Advisor is responsible for two majors goals 1) helping the most recent cohort of students pursue a challenge of completing 100 hours of community service within a year of attending the seminar and 2) maintaining connections with our existing alumni basis through regular communications and events.
